Rock Springs Run
Paddle.
Rock Springs Run travels 8 miles to join the Wekiva
River on their way to the St. Johns. Most of the trip is through
Wekiwa Springs (aka Wekiva Springs) State Park and gives you a good
chance to paddle in an area that lets you see what Florida was like
before major development. I usually see a good variety of wildlife
along the way. We will stop for lunch along the way so pack a
lunch. The paddle usually takes about 5 hours at a leisurely pace.
We will put in at Kings Landing (407-886-0859) and take out at the
Wekiva Marina. Rentals are available at King's Landing for $30 that
includes the ride back to the beginning. For those with their own
boats please be at Kings Landing and have your boat and gear
unloaded by 9:15 and we will
shuttle to Wekiva Marina where
there is a $3 parking fee. There is a launch fee of $10
at King's Landing. For those who will be renting, please
arrive at King's Landing and have your rental squared away by 9:45.
Members and invited guests. Please contact Tony Owen
towen@finfrock.cc
(preferred) or call 407-884-0570 and leave a message if I'm not home.

LOXAHATCHEE RIVER DAY TRIP/PADDLE - I
will lead a day trip on the Loxahatchee River. It is a beautiful,
winding, wild and scenic river. The trip is about 8 miles with an
interesting stop for lunch at a historical place that used to belong to
a man named Trapper Nelson. The river completely changes at that point
and becomes tidal. Since it is in Jupiter, anyone who wants to come
down on Friday or Saturday could stay over at Jonathan Dickinson State
Park. There is good hiking, biking, plus other paddling opportunities.

ANNUAL GATHERING 2007.
Plan to socialize and be active at our Annual Gathering at River
Forest. We will hike The Yearling Trail, highlighted from the book
The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. The Trail will show the
sinkhole and also the Long family cemetery. The host, Cathy Phillips,
went with a ranger about 3-4 years back and has a trail map off the
internet that outlines the different places and some of the foundations
of old homesteads. She also has a book written by the family about whom
the story was written and will tell stories from that book. The trail
is about 5 miles long off of Hwy.19 in the Ocala Forest. We will have
hikes, paddles, and bike rides to choose from, plus member presentations
on dehydrating food, rafting the Grand Canyon, and the Trailwalker
Program, and more. Subject to changes.
So come join us for a weekend of outdoor activities, education,
camaraderie, good food, and fresh air. Look for a flyer in the mail and
send in your registration soon. Look for more details in the website. More
Info.
