clear 72 degree spring all along the way. Our trip will cover approximately

choked with pines, cypress, oaks, and other hardwoods. An abundance of
wildlife can be sighted year round and we might see beaver, otter, deer, and

Arbuckle
Creek Paddle/Camp. Arbuckle offers varying scenery along its 28-30
mile course from Lake Arbuckle down to Lake Istokpoga, east of Avon Park and
Sebring. It winds through tree-covered banks, savannahs, high cliffs,
pastures, etc. There's usually a good current, and rarely have we had
problems with low water or portages. Friday night's car camping is in the
Lake Wales Ridge State Forest, and Saturday night's river camping is in a
lovely oak hammock. It's basically an easy paddle, but the first day is a
bit long for some, 17 or 18 miles. We'll have an early start Saturday, due
to that long first day, but Sunday will be more leisurely.
Joint trip with Palm Beach Pack
and Paddle Club.

Hike Sapelo Island, Georgia. We still have a
few spots left. Spend Presidents' Day weekend hiking and camping on a
limited-access barrier island with a rich history on the coast of Georgia,
about 4 hours from Orlando. Drive up on Sat am for the afternoon ferry
(passengers/gear only). A bus will then take us to our campsite, a
semi-primitive area just over the dunes of Cabretta Beach. This group site
has hot showers, flush toilets, and a nice fire-ring. While on the island
we'll hike on dirt roads, explore the beach and the nearby community of Hog
Hammock. Be prepared for possibly cold nights. Monday the ferry departs at
noon. $10 round-trip ferry fee plus $24 camping fee for the weekend, per
person. Limited trip; members may bring one invited guest only. Reserve a

Santa Fe River/Camp/Paddle. Come join
fellow Trekkers on a 2 day paddle down the Santa Fe River near High Springs,
Fl., Gazetteer page 65. We will meet at the Santa Fe Alachua River Outpost

starting at the Outfitter's launch at US 441 just South of the Santa Fe
Bridge. We will paddle upstream for 2 to 3 miles seeing part of the river
most people miss. After reversing our course back past the Outfitters, we
will stop for the night at Lilly Springs to camp. Nature Ed has an
agreement with Santa Fe Outfitters for groups to camp overnight. The cost
for the Outfitter will be $20.00/boat (insurance has gone up), and $8.00 per
person at Lilly Springs. Nature Ed will provide firewood for the campfire.
The group will continue down the river on Sunday morning and take out at the
Hwy 47 Bridge. This has been an exciting river paddle and camp in the past.
As always stated, this is primitive camping (though Lilly Springs has an
outhouse). You will need to provide camping gear, 2 lunches, 1 dinner, and
a breakfast. The Outfitter can provide transportation of some camping
equipment to Lilly Springs. Reservations are required. Limited to 16

Winter Park Chain of Lakes.
Come enjoy a
leisurely paddle along the Winter Park Chain of Lakes. This is a great
paddle for beginners, or those who like to "tour with a view". Weather
should be mild & beautiful. We'll begin on Lake Virginia, then tour Lake
Osceola, and Lake Maitland, where we'll likely stop for a lunch & fellowship
time on Dog Island. Lovely wood-framed, clear water canals & bridge(s)
between lakes, with lush flora make this trip rather unique, I think.
We'll meet up at 9:00am Sat. March 25, 2005 to unload & put-in, then leave
Dinky Dock promptly at 9:30am, and will be back around 12:30pm-ish. (no
shuttling required; plus there are bathrooms at Dinky Dock) Dinky Dock is
located just off of Fairbanks Ave. (an I-4 exit in Winter Park) just east
of posh Park Avenue, alongside the campus of Rollins College. We can bask
in the architectural beauty of mansions, museum(s), statues, and
more...probably "rub elbows" with the hourly Winter Park Boat Tour
Pontoons. There is a tiny beach at Dog Island, and Dinky Dock (put-in
location) has a small, public beach in case you feel like taking a dip.

Suwannee River Paddle/Camp - 74 miles.
We will meet Monday morning at Spirit of the
Suwannee campground for a shuttle up to Fargo, GA. The total trip last year
was either (64 miles - Carl's map) (67 miles - Outfitter's response) or (74
miles - Peter's G.P.S.). My trip report from last year: Monday was a
beautiful day ending after about 14 miles and a great campsite and campfire.
The evening was a cleansing of the sky with showers and lightening. Tuesday
we were up and on the water before 8:30 with the threat of rain and cooler
temperatures. It was either Tuesday or Wednesday that an alligator made an
appearance. We covered about twenty miles on Tuesday and Wednesday and
another great campsite and fire. Wednesday the sun tried once to make an
appearance but was not successful. The evenings are now in the mid forties.
After three days of paddling we have covered 55 miles and Peter decides to
end the trip on Thursday. All are up around 7:00 and say goodbye as Peter
shoves off at 7:23 for the remaining 19 miles and is off the water by noon.
The mist burns off the river by nine and it is a warm, sunny day the
remainder of the group probably had a nice two days of paddling. The cool
weather kept the wildlife inside. We did see one Great Blue Heron the tried
to lead us down the river and a Yellow Crested Night Heron. The trip will
be limited to five tents. Shuttle will be around $20 each. Event Host

Cedar Key Kayaking Weekend.
Come spend the weekend on Florida's Nature Coast. We
will meet for breakfast Saturday morning at 9 am and proceed to Shell Mound
County Park. We will kayak to Derrick Key and then, weather permitting,
along the gulf shore to Deer Island for lunch. From Deer Island, we will
take the "inside passage" to return to the park. Total trip length about 7
miles. Highlights of the trip will include viewing of wintering bird life
and the Indian shell mounds. There is also a short nature trail and camping
area. For those interested, we will be dining Saturday night at one of the
local establishments. For those that want to stay longer, we will explore
the nearby keys by kayak Sunday eating lunch on one of many island beaches.
Local accommodations, to be made individually, include hotels, condos,
cottages, and camping. Participation limited to 10 adults, either members
or their guests. Sit-on-top kayaks not recommended due to water
temperatures of the season. Experienced kayakers only. Spray skirts highly
recommended. Event hosts Scott McCann and Jamie Aiello
