Suwannee at Easter -

We had such a fun weekend, even though just 4 of us Trekkers made it. We laughed and laughed. The river was LOW (50' river level), but beautiful, showing off the sandy bottom and limestone ledges under the surface. The stretch from Big Shoals down to Rte 41 wasn't doable because it was too low. A cold front had hit and the nights were in the 30's, with sunny days in the 60's. There was an antique farm equipment and tractor pull at the state park that weekend (guess it's always the first weekend of April), but other than causing the sites to be booked early, it didn't affect any of our activities.

Friday Joan Landon & Erica paddled upstream from the Stephen Foster State Park to Rte 41, then Lynda Kinder joined us and we ate the buffet at the Telford Hotel that night, meeting up with Sue Chisefsky afterward. We enjoyed a campfire for a bit that night. Saturday we paddled from the park down to Woods Ferry, checking out the Wilderness Waterway camping area and cabins just north of the takeout. Sat eve we were invited to a yummy spaghetti dinner by a friendly group from Palm Beach Pack & Paddle, then went to hear some folk singing and story telling held in the park. No campfire that night due to rain. Sunday morning the Easter service had moved inside the Bell Tower because of the cold. After breakfast we went over to hike in the Big Shoals rec area, and walked out onto the exposed rocks which had grass growing on them. We returned to the park to break camp and then all drove on home. (P.S. Sadly, no one had an Easter bonnet for the hat contest.)
