Suncoast Trail 2 Day Bike Trip -
We met at Crews Lake Park where there was a nice boardwalk but the lake was dried up. Saturday we biked south for a roundtrip of 40 miles, including 12 miles in/out of J B Starkey Wilderness which was the most scenic section for Saturday. We saw 1 deer and a few gopher turtles. We had lunch in J B Starkey then rode through the tent camping loop, cabin loop and visited the bath house (flush toilets, showers with changing area, but no climate control). The best tent sites are 1-3 and 11+. Other sites are full sun and sandy. There are water spickets but no electricity in the tent area. Cabins are a good size with bunk beds for 6-8, table, chairs, electricity. Nice shaded area. Reservations must be made in person and not more than 30 days in advance. Saturday evening we socialized at the Hellas Café in Tarpon Springs known for excellent Greek food. Sunday we met at Anderson Snow Park and rode north for a round trip of 36 miles. This section of the trail has more shade and rolling hills but the only water/restroom available is at US50 although there are several picnic tables/shelters along the way. We passed several dry retention ponds; one had water. We saw a red bird (not a cardinal) and of course another gopher turtle. This is a good trip for experienced bikers; best during cool months.
