Sugarloaf Bike Ride -
The Sugarloaf Bike Ride from the West Orange Trail's Killarney Station included 4 cyclist; Jim Braga, Sean Lyle, Bob Lyle and Clark Getz, the host. Three others had signed up but had schedule conflicts at the last moment and could not attend. Jim, though well within the senior citizen classification, was a strong and hardcore rider giving company to young Sean Lyle as the pair of them stayed well ahead and out of sight most of the time. Jim knew his way around the Lake County hills and knew exactly how to get to Sugarloaf, not to mention that he rode up the steep incline twice. Bob Lyle and I hung back, I taking the sweep in my usual "slow but sure" climb up the dozens of grades; but not as paired buddies, as Bob had gotten ahead to such a distance as getting off the track and unfortunately did not make it to the "mountain" top. The view of Lake Apopka was typical, but the high humidity and cloud cover occluded the downtown Orlando skyline. Unfortunately, the ride back was more of a fast paced man-hunt than a leisurely, taking in of the scene and moment. Bob had simply returned back to the parking when he realized he was lost. I always seem to learn something new as an event host. 1) Although the printable route map was published on the link within the event write-up, as host, I should have brought printed copies to hand out anyway; my bad. 2) Remind participants that the WT experience is a social event, so staying together is important, unfortunately, not grouping up was an unforeseen condition that unfolded during the course of the ride.
