Myakka River State Park Weekend Dec 1-2 -

8 Trekkers enjoyed diverse activities and diverse beauty of this park located near Sarasota.  On the 2 scheduled hikes (10 miles on Sat and 5 miles on Sun) we saw wildflowers, butterflies, wild hogs, shaded hammock and open prairie.  We passed 2 primitive camp areas that would be excellent for a beginning backpack trip.  There were also several unscheduled activities: paddling, roller blading, biking, a walk to the canopy and nature trail where we saw deer, and 2 campfires for social time.  Myakka also offered 2 Ranger-led programs.  Once on Vultures and the other on Beginning Birding.  Sorry, if you weren't able to join us!
