Long Point Park, Sebastian Inlet, FL - Long Point Park, a Brevard county Park with waterfront campsites on Indian River is the greatest campground for the kayak and cyclist enthusiasts. We reserved our sites 5 months in advance. Friday was a free day, everyone arrived at their leisure and set the camp, be it tent (with ceiling fans!! Aaaah, those Florida summer nights), a van with A/C, a pop-up camper with A/C, nice for July. On Saturday, we got started at 9:30 and 7 hours later, we had covered about 9 1/2 miles. We began with a quick dip in a nice cool water. We stopped at Sebastian River State Park for more swimming. We took another break on an island on our way toward the west bank of the river. We saw many other folks camping on the river islands. We had lunch at a waterfront restaurant where we pulled our kayaks on a nicely mowed grassy area next to a row of Harley bikes. Before getting to St. Sebastian River, we made another stop on an island. Some went for a stroll and looked for shells while others did some more swimming. We then headed back to the campground with a 1 1/2 mile river crossing and a workout of a crossing it turned out to be with a beam wind of about 8 MPH. So we made a full day of it rather casually. Later that evening, from the southern most point of the island, we took in the 4th of July fireworks show eminating from three seperate loactions. Host: Mariam Mohsenin |
