Bethune Beach and Moquito Lagoon Paddle
October 25, 2009
Mosquito Lagoon from Bethune Beach Paddle - We put in with a group of 13 paddlers from Bethune beach. We paddled up the shipyard channel to a campsite for a rest and exploration (this campsite can be reserved from the national seashore at 386-428-3384). This area is known for its hefty manatee population but they were scarce on this day. We were visited by several dolphins and birds during our paddle. Our group also paddled south to the boat ramp near Turtle Mound where a capsized boat rescue demonstration was performed. Rescue skills were not needed on this day but its always good to be prepared. It turned out to be a warm and breezy day which made for ideal paddling conditions.
